James Clavell - Gai-jin
tags: Japan, Books

Just about to finish my third book by James Clavell in about 30 pages or so, (this means that I've read about 3000 pages by this man) and I do have to say; this book has just been exciting!

So far I've read Shogun, Tai-pan and almost Gai-jin, and I still cannot get enough of this mans stories.
James Clavell books
Since I've read all three, I'll give a short review for all of them together without mentioning the plots.
The way the characters are described and how you get to know their feelings, plans, how and why they act like they do (often because of their culture) is reflected and presented in an extraordinary way, you are simply hooked from page one and onwards.
You don't follow just one character throughout the book, but are seeing the whole plot from a variety of different people, which is really interesting.

Finally, I'll have to say that there are 100-150 pages around the middle of Gai-jin where it is going a bit slow, but god dammit the last 300 pages have been an exciting adventure!

All in all, if you're into history and asian culture, these books are for you. Even if you're not, they are still worth reading!
