All written work and reports needed to be turned in yesterday, so have just started the reading period today.
Fortunately, I'm pretty confident in two of my three subjects this semester (those two being the ones about Java programming and a Search Engine made in Java respectively), so figured that I would use this huge amount of time available on something useful.
As I am always trying to improve my skills and broaden my field of knowledge, I thought that I would try out JavaScript, therefore I got a book on the subject.
JavaScript Step By Step, by Steve Suehring, is written in what I would call (no offense people) the American style. It has a lot of silly and unnecessary text and is rather quickly over the basics, so if you don't like that kind of writing, or need a book for complete beginners with no prior experience in any language, I wouldn't recommend it.
Still, I am only around a third through the book, and it's not like the book doesn't have any good sides. If you (like me) are fairly comfortable with a C-based language (e.g. Java, C or C++), then you'll have no problem with the short introduction to the basics, since it is always nice to run them through in a newly encountered language.
I'm planning on using JavaScript on the site sometime in the future, possibly jQuery and Ajax too when I get to that, so watch out for hopefully cool changes!
